Hierarchies
Location Hierarchies
For the convenience of managing rating rules, locations are organised in to location hierarchies. A location may occur in multiple hierarchies, however a location may not occur more than once in a hierarchy.
When defining a location hierarchy, the OCS supports an arbitrary level of nesting within the hierarchy. A location may have any number of sub locations, and the actual tree is defined from locations based on the structure built in the hierarchy when it is created.
Locations and hierarchies are conceptually agnostic and do not necessary apply to physical locations. For example, a location hierarchy may group:
- Free vs. paid websites
- A traditional telecommunications dialing digit hierarchy
- Wi-Fi nodes grouped in to charging categories
The hierarchies applied to any deployment of the OCS will depend on the rating policies that must be applied.
