About Us

N-Squared Software is a software development company based in Palmerston North. We do software development work for companies throughout the lower North Island.

At the present time we're not looking to take on any new developers.

N-Squared exists for one reason alone: developing computer software. We know that our success will depend on our ability to create great systems to meet our client's specifications.

A lot of what we've been doing recently is web-based applications, using Adobe Flex and JavaScript, along with powerful web-based toolkits like jQuery, ExtJS and Protovis, along with tools like Jasper for reporting. We're fully up-to-speed with most modern database technologies - Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and such.

The N-Squared team also has long history in real-time/high-availability C/C++, Java, Oracle DB, and Mac/Linux/Solaris systems. We're also a big fan of open, industry standards? We like to develop systems that use open source projects, and that support a wide range of platforms.

That preceding list is far from the limit of what we use. Our customers ask for all sorts of things, and we have the skills to oblige. Need a Content Management System setup and customized? Sure thing. Document Management? Java-based software? PHP? Python? Yeah, no problem. We've been there, done that. Just ask.

Most people spend nearly as many waking hours in the office as they do at home. That makes it important that it's a nice place.

Our office is in Ruahine Street, perfectly placed on the edge of town. There's plenty of free parking, and a great choice of cafes within easy walking distance. There's a pub across the road where we often drop in for lunch on Friday. It's three minutes minutes drive into the heart of the CBD, or fifteen minutes when the weather is nice and we decide to walk.

Our software development methodology is flexible and professional, incorporating and balancing aspects of 'classic', 'rational/iterative' and 'agile' according to the nature of the project. But in our working environment we are unashamedly 'tech-friendly' above all else. We care a great deal for flexible design and quality deliverables, and not much for suits and ties.

Our tools and solutions are as flexible and varied as our client requirements. Web-based Solutions, Oracle or Open Source Databases, Linux/Solaris/Unix Servers, Microsoft Frameworks. We know that in the end, good software design, thoughtful implementation and clear communication are the only truly common components in all good software systems.
